How to Feel Natural in Your Wedding Photos
If the idea of being photographed all day fills you with dread, you're not alone. None of my couples are models, they’re just real people who want to enjoy their wedding and look like themselves in the photos.
The good news? Natural, relaxed wedding photography doesn’t come from stiff poses or forced smiles. It comes from how you feel — and with a little guidance (and the right photographer), it’s actually easy.
Here’s how to feel natural in your wedding photos and walk away with images that look and feel like you.
1. Give Photos Space in Your Timeline
If you’re rushed, flustered, or worrying about what’s next, it’ll show. Build some breathing room into your timeline — not just for portraits, but for natural moments throughout the day. A few extra minutes makes a big difference to how relaxed you feel, and it shows in the photos.
Trust me: calm couples = beautiful, natural photos.
2. Stick Together During the Day
This might sound simple, but it works: spend time together. Walk between venues hand-in-hand, mingle during your drinks reception together, do a lap of the tables during dinner — anything that creates time for candid moments with the person you just married.
Photos of you two being you happen more easily when you're actually together.
3. Movement Is Your Friend
Photos might be still, but movement brings them to life. A little walk, a spin, a shared laugh — these small, natural motions loosen you up and create more relaxed photos.
I’ll guide you if needed, but often the most beautiful frames happen in those unscripted, in-between moments.
4. Hands Matter More Than You Think
Nothing says “awkward” like a hand not knowing what to do. Here’s my tip: when in doubt, touch your partner. Their hand, arm, back, waist — anywhere (well, please remember I am watching!).
These touch points create connection and ease, and the difference they make in photos is huge.
5. Be in the Moment
Don’t worry about what I’m doing. The best photos happen when you’re not focused on the camera, but on each other. Chat, laugh, soak it all in — and let me do the rest. When you’re present in your day, your photos will feel that way too.
6. Choose a Photographer Who Gets You
This one’s important. Feeling comfortable in front of the camera doesn’t start on the day — it starts with choosing someone who makes you feel safe, understood, and relaxed. One size definitely doesn’t fit all, and I pride myself on adapting to each couple’s vibe. Whether you’re super camera-shy or secretly love a photo moment, I’ve got you.
This isn’t about posing perfectly — it’s about feeling like yourself.
