A timeless wedding at St Audries Park in Somerset

How to plan a wedding that will stand the test of time

Have you ever looked through your parents’ wedding album and thought, “what on earth were they thinking?!” The suit? The dress? The decorations? THE HAIR?!

But it’s not their fault. I mean, how do you plan a wedding that will stand the test of time? And leave you with an album you can sit down and look through with your grandchildren in forty years’ time, safe in the knowledge they won’t openly laugh at you?! It’s tricky, isn’t it? But I have to say, Julia and Matt’s gorgeous wedding at St Audries Park in Somerset came pretty darn close!

Sleek designer wedding dress? Check! Historic manor house and grounds? Check! Timeless, natural wedding photography by yours truly?! Check and check!

With every detail of the wedding chosen with flawless taste, the entire day was a masterclass in elegance from beginning to end. Prepare yourself for the perfect white wedding!

Before we go any further, can we all just take a minute to appreciate the dress?!

That stunning dress you see Julia wearing is Georgie by Made with Love Bridal.

I’ve always adored Made with Love’s work. Famous for their plunging necklines and low-cut backs, MWL dresses always manage to somehow look both modern and classic at the same time. And Georgie’s sleek silhouette makes her a MWL Vintage classic. Love love LOVE this dress!

And that’s the first thing that makes their wedding album future-proof! The modern yet vintage style of Julia’s dress, coupled with Matt’s classically suave tailored black suit and bow tie make them the picture-perfect bride and groom. You think their grandchildren will make fun of their outfits? Not a chance!

St Audries Park is a photographer’s dream!

If you’re looking for a unique wedding venue in Somerset, St Audries Park is up there with the best. Surrounded by 100 acres of scenic parkland, and with stunning views over the Quantock Hills and all the way down to the coast, the 500 year-old manor house is a historical gem surrounded by jaw-dropping Somerset beauty.

And whereas more quirky or modern venues may look outdated in the future when you look back, traditional venues like this, as well as more rustic venues like barns, will never lose their charm.

And did I mention? St Audries Park is a photographer’s playground! The multi-award winning venue leaves you spoilt for choice when it comes to photo opps. I was like a kid in a candy store! From the show-stopping gothic entrance, to the gorgeous fountain where we held the group shots, I couldn’t imagine a more perfect backdrop for Julia and Matt’s timeless white wedding.

The ceremony itself was held in the venue’s Victorian Orangery. There was a moment as Julia and Matt said their vows, a cloud passed by and the summer sun beamed through the glass ceiling high above us, bathing the celebration in natural light. Just perfect.

It’s all in the details

One thing that stands out to me when I look back through the photos is how exquisitely simple all the details are. And I don’t mean they were basic, but they were all just so refined.

From the elegant simplicity of Julia’s bouquet of pure white roses, to the four-tiered wedding cake adorned with the same floristry theme, every single detail was clean cut, cohesive and considered. And classic sophistication like this will never age.

And of course, make sure you choose the right photographer!

Julia and Matt’s day was absolutely brimming with love and emotion from start to finish. With both families having recently lost much-loved grandparents, what would already have been an emotional day was made all the more poignant by their absence. And on top of all this, after having to delay their wedding twice due to Covid, the fact their day had finally come at all made the whole celebration just that much more special.

And I think that’s what truly makes this wedding timeless. Because the fact is, when you look back in thirty or forty years’ time at your wedding album, you won’t be looking at your suit, or your dress. You’ll be looking into the eyes of your best friend who you married all those decades ago.

And that’s why my approach to photographing your wedding will be as natural and unobtrusive as possible. I’ll capture those fleeting moments that snapshot you and your love for each other, for you to revisit and treasure in years to come. Because those special candid moments, that look of love in your eyes when you think no one’s looking, that moment of pure joy when you wrap your arms around each other for your first dance. They’re the moments that will make your wedding truly timeless.

So if you would like me to capture those moments of your wedding, I’d love to hear from you! Please get in touch today.
